If you think your weight might change significantly, it’s a good idea to wait on dress shopping. While it might limit your ordering options later, it could save you money and frustration if a resized dress loses its original style and fit. You might also end up preferring a different silhouette once your shape changes.

Be wary of stylists who quote alterations without an actual seamstress present. Resizing, customizations and design changes can be costly and can drastically change the original design. It's OKAY to keep shopping!!

Off the rack purchases can save you money, be sure to keep repair and cleaning costs in mind for badly damaged sample gowns.

Stay within your budget and look at the price tag prior to trying on ANYTHING in order to avoid falling in love with a dress that's simply out of reach.

Think about whether you’ll be indoors or outdoors, the heel type as well as the height, even the weather when deciding between open or closed toe.

Once you’ve made your choice, break them in at home by wearing them indoors for extended periods—vacuuming, washing dishes on a hard floor, and really putting them through their paces.
